I can’t believe I done turned 50 years old last month. And this month, I’m preparing for what is shaping up to be the most epic fun adventure of my whole entire life! I’ll be headed for Trinidad Carnival, and not as a spectator on the sidelines, I’m playing mas, in a band with this fun bunch (video). As you can see, this is no joke. It’s non-stop wild dancing and partying HARD for 2 days and all the days and nights of parties leading up to the big event, some of which actually start before the break of dawn… Stay tuned, I will be posting pics of my booty cheeks in glitter and feathers!
I made the decision to do this in the summer of 2018 and took every bit of that time to prepare my body and mind. I just love dancing all day and all night and going to a whole country where I can do this and eat fantastic food and be with my beautiful black people and also beaches? Heaven on earth.
Now this is MY idea of a good life, not necessarily anyone else’s. But the point is, there really is no need to limit yourself from doing anything whatever it is you want in your life because of that number you write on applications. It doesn’t matter what you wish for yourself or what anybody else has to say about it. It’s your life.
My favorite thing (besides food and dancing) is to help other women overcome fears, doubts and physical limitations to make their wildest dreams come true. Because we as women of a certain age usually have more resources and more character than we’ve had in our lives. And that should be exploited to the fullest! I took a year and a half of improving my eating habits (even more) and taking high intensity interval training every week not only to prepare for this event, but to look and feel great overall, and it worked, I’m happy with my results and will continue indefinitely.
I lost weight. I got stronger and faster. I did NOT restrict food or go on a diet or do anything I didn’t really want to do. I didn’t go on a grueling journey. I just made a decision one day and began moving forward.
Spending your grown grown life worrying about preventable illnesses and ailments, or what your coworkers or church friends will think of your ideas will do nothing but leave you with worlds of regrets when it’s too late, so don’t let this happen to you.
What is it that you would love to do if you never imposed limits on yourself? Run a marathon? Travel? Start a business? Take your nieces/nephews/grandkids to Disney? It doesn’t matter how big or small, and you don’t need to compare your dreams to anybody else’s. But you need to enjoy a level of good health to be able to do these things safely and truly enjoy them.
