Where Your Soft Life Begins with Your Manifesto, Not Magic

LifeBliss is a private, intentionally curated community for Black women and a safe space free from the judgment, policing, and trolling that often exists in public or mixed spaces, so you can relax and show up fully.

LifeBliss is living life with intentional, liberated, unbothered, unapologetic Black Joy.

LifeBliss is liberation from the endless postponement of our wildest dreams.

LifeBliss is the grown-ass woman version of Carefree Black Girl, not reckless, or unrealistic, but deliberately prioritizing delight.

And here’s how we start: not with a course, not with homework, but with a manifesto.

Why a Manifesto?

The word manifesto comes from the word manifest. Manifesting is not some silly woo-woo thing. Manifesting means making shit happen. And if you want to make some good shit happen, you need an idea.  An idea built on your values, your desires, your dreams that you keep active and alive, so you can bust it out right when you need it.

That idea is born from your personal manifesto. Consider these questions:

  • Do you know what you really want for yourself at this point in your life going forward, in raw and extremely honest terms?
  • Does thinking about how to make your wildest dreams come true drain you and hurt your brain?
  • Have you modified your desires so they seem palatable and not ridiculous to the people around you? That’s called a half-assed dream.
  • What is the REAL way you want to live when there’s nobody there judging your ideas?
  • Is it possible you’re missing out on all kinds of joy because you have “reasonable and realistic” blinders on?
  • How are you gonna feel when you get close to the end of your life and all you did was walk the line and miss out? Is that feeling worse than feeling silly now for dreaming big?
  • Are you settling for the usual, typical, acceptable way to live out the rest of your days, even though it’s not really what you want?
  • Have you buried your real wants so deep that you no longer recognize or remember them?

Here’s how I know a manifesto works

My core values were scattered around in my on-again, off-again journals, a vision board, and even some of my art, over a span of almost two decades. Not deliberately. Not as some organized life-planning system. Just fragments here and there, whenever I got quiet enough to hear myself, or took a workshop.

One of those fragments was a photo of a beach house, stapled to the front of a stressed-out law student’s notebook back in 2000, because a friend told me to remember what I actually wanted. Another was a vision board I made in 2018, filled with images of Caribbean life, at a time when I had absolutely no idea if, or how, any of it could ever materialize. (It 100% has!)

These scattered pieces didn’t do anything magical on their own. They just sat there, quietly, on a bookshelf, waiting while life was lifin’.

Then my world cracked open. An unexpected divorce and a regressive political climate pushed me to start looking for a plan, because I didn’t have the answers. What I did have was a far-fetched long time dream that, in reality, turned out to be a pretty practical solution.

It wasn’t magical, and there was no mystical bearded guru, it was just a set of raw, unfiltered desires, preserved and waiting. This is what a manifesto does: it helps you manifest your wildest dreams into workable realities.

Your manifesto doesn’t create the opportunity. Life will do that on its own timeline, whether you’re ready or not. What your manifesto does is make sure that when the door cracks open, you already know exactly what you’re walking toward.

And you don’t have to build it alone in fragments for twenty years like I did.
