Healthy Living is about Freedom, Food and Vitality!

Being healthy does not require the usual pain and struggle the Weight Loss Industrial Complex (WLIC) would have you  believe. It’s hard to imagine, but most of what we’ve been taught about health and weight are lies. And we women of a certain age are sick of the bullshit! There are people all over the world living healthy and happy lives without any diets, meal plans, detoxes, cleanses, juices, extreme workouts or supplements. But how?

Good Health is our Body’s Default Condition

There’s nothing wrong with you. Even if you’ve been warned that you’re at risk of developing chronic lifestyle diseases like type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease. Even if you’re overweight. You definitely need to take these things seriously but you’re not bad or flawed. It does not mean that you have to become a vegan or swear off sugar for life. It only means that you need to get serious about shifting your lifestyle more towards balance. You need to stop worrying about the food being healthy and focus on making YOU healthy.

Instead of obsessing over eating and restricting certain foods, I help you to focus on nourishing your mind, body and spirit with intuitive eating, mindfulness, rejecting diet culture, success mindset, tools and skills to get the long term results you want. ~LifeBliss Lisa

We as Black Women Culturally Value Food as Love and Life

Trust me, you don’t need anybody telling you what to eat or when. Your body is smart and knows what it needs. You need help listening to your body’s subtle signals and reacting to them in ways that also honor who you are and what you value most. As your food & lifestyle coach this is what I’ll help you do.

Typical weight loss and wellness programs are not really designed with black women in mind. We are just not inspired by bone-skinny blond-haired celebrity wellness gurus grinning at salads or skipping through farmers markets with baskets of vegetables. It’s because we come from rich cultures with amazing cuisines. And we celebrate and nurture our own with food. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The idea that we should not experience joy from food is an absolute farce. So when people who don’t look like us come with health advice that is in direct conflict with who we are, it’s an eminent FAIL.

Demonizing our glorious cuisines is not the answer.  American soul food, Caribbean and African food are not inherently unhealthy, but the stress and anxiety of living in a way that’s not true to our values is. The things we are directed to do, often even by medical professionals only work temporarily, if at all. We have to celebrate food, not fear it.

Who decided that raw kale and wheatgrass juice shots are better for your health than collard greens and blackeye peas, homemade pizza, kachumbari or curry?

It’s Time to Relax and Normalize Healthy Eating and Living

You deserve to live a rich and beautiful life, with women like you. Not to commiserate with you, because misery will not make you healthier. I created a Facebook group, Wellness and Weight Loss Tribe for Badass Black Women over 40 to connect you with like-minded lovelies. It’s not a place for recipes, diet plans, products or gadgets. We don’t care if you’re up # pounds or down # pounds. We like to have fun. These days, we need fun more than anything. If this resonates with you please join the group. We would love to have you!
